Baccarat and the Movies

Baccarat is a card game played in casinos all around the world. The game is usually played by high rollers, people who know their Blackjack and poker. They might even have the experience of using odds calculators. So they are experienced, and you can tell by the dressing at the table that big moneys are being bet. It is all about the winnings and the bonus. The game is not played in the noisy casino halls, which explains why you probably haven’t heard of Baccarat or have never seen a Baccarat table in a casino. The game is played in a different room in the casino separated from other games. Baccarat is a game in a class of its own; the game has a long history as it has been around since the 1400s which makes it one of the oldest casino card games around. The game is reserved for those who can afford to bet huge sums of money, this has always been the tradition even in history were the game was only played by noble men and kings.

Baccarat is not a new phenomenon as I have just highlighted and if you are an avid movie lover or novel reader, particularly of Ian Fleming’s creation the secret agents James Bond: 007, then you might be familiar with Baccarat which is played in most James Bond novels and movies. Baccarat is game that did not enjoy a lot of popularity as few people knew about it however, the movies have increased people’s awareness of the game and more people have gained interest in the game. James Bond movies are the most significant contributor to the increase in popularity of Baccarat where it is portrayed in most of the movies, for example in the 1953 and 1967 of Casino Royale which gives the game the most detailed treatment it has ever received in a movie. Other James Bond movies that show baccarat being played include Dr No, and Thunderball.

James Bond movies are not the only movies that have portrayed Baccarat and helped increase the games popularity, other noticeable movies that have scenes where Baccarat is played include Rush Hour 3, which shows Chris Tucker’s character trying to play Baccarat assuming its blackjack in a casino in Paris. There are also TV shows that portray Baccarat for example the Pinky and the Brain episode called Brain’s Way where Brain makes a casino that only has Baccarat.

Today Baccarat is a well known casino game and more people are playing it thanks to movies such as these. Another contributor to the increase in people playing Baccarat is online casinos which has made it easier to access and play the game.
