If being aggressive won’t work, consider the idea that your opponents might have better cards or believe that you’re just bluffing out on them.

Making some bluffs and semi-bluffs sometimes can be a good strategy. Bluffing or semi-bluffing at the right time can actually be so effective that you will be able to win big bucks.

Well, your main goal when you bluff should be to confuse your opponents. You have to make them belief that you are having a certain hand although you are not. Say you have the marginal hand at best and to make a bluff about it, you have to make them believe that you have nuts. And to make this effective, you have to continuously bet and raise. On the other hand, when you semi-bluff, your main goal will still be to confuse your opponents. However, you will be into some kind of a progressive bluffing. On the flip side, although making some bluffs and semi-bluffs can be a good strategy and can be really effective, there are also some strings attached to it. If you happen to make some bluffs and semi-bluff at the wrong time, at the wrong situation, then you will be on great trouble that may eventually lead to you losing your entire bankroll. Thus, be very careful when making bluffs and semi-bluffs at the poker table.

Even in the game Poker, there are bullies who will intimidate and terrorize you. Most likely, their aim will be to win by default, do the bluffing and all till others including you are eliminated from the game. Thus, it is important that you know what you’re going to do when you are up against these bullies. Make a strategy.

Have something that will work out. Poker bullies can be the kind of opponents you don’t want to play with as they can be really naughty and unpredictable at the table. But with right approach, you would be able to beat them.

Mixing up your playing styles is actually a good strategy. Your opponents can’t easily read you and your cards. However, so you could ascertain which playing styles to mix up, you should know the condition of the table you intend to sit at.

First, consider if there are lots of players entering each hand. Then if such players usually stay in until the turn or river. If there is actually a lot of players entering each hand and they stay in until the turn or river then expect a table with predictable players and action.

Slow-playing is a good idea under some conditions or situations. Slow-playing can hide one’s own strengths and deceive opponents. However, unlike betting, it is not as profitable at all times. For slow-playing to be the best possible move, the situation should be ideal or perfect.

5. Checking to the Bettor

Checking to the bettor is at most not a good move. By doing so, bettor will only get a free card if he wishes to. Nonetheless, it is best to just bet in the event you have a strong hand.

You might want to try and open you hand ranges up in later position. Without knowing more about your game I cannot recommend bluffing. Raising preflop just for the sake of raising usually just leads to lost money. If you are going to raise, do so for a reason, such as a big hand or a tight game.

I’m now into trouble as I don’t know how should I exactly play my cards. I typically play once or twice a week along with some close friends. Well, we all love to buy in to a five dollar tourney as we always get a whole lot of fun doing so.

One time I tried to place in twice. I know I was far better than my friends so I was confident. I decided to slow play. But I was bothered as I know I’m not good at bluffing ever since. Every time I try my friends call or raise to hurt me. And because of this, I just end up chasing and chasing lots of cards to both turn and river, typically flush and straight draws.

As of the moment, we are planning to host a huge tourney, buy in will be $20. Of course I don’t want to lose if in case. So I’m wondering if you have any exercise in mind that you think would be perfect for me. Is there any?

First, tighten up your hand requirements a bit. Don’t chase flush draws and straight draws unless you have proper odds. If you do not understand what I mean, do some research on pot odds. Also, study up about playing hands in position. Later in the tournament, find spots to steal blinds from the weaker players at the table to help keep your stack healthy.

Another thing you may want to do is play more poker online to give yourself more tournament experience. This way you can work on your game and not rely on your weekly home game.
