However, be careful when trying to do these stuff. They are helpful but then when done at the wrong time or at the wrong situation can lead to a big trouble. Be careful.

Free Peek

Typically, you have to give out some money before seeing the flop, turn, and river. You have to pay. But there’s an exemption to this. If you are a clever player, you can get a peek for free. Without spending even a single penny, you can see the flop, turn, and river.

Say the flop was revealed and you were on the button, the tendency then after, at the turn card, you can have a free peek. After which, you should raise. This will then make your opponents doubtful of the cards that they have. They will become leery of what you have which will eventually bring them to poor decisions and moves.

Semi-Bluffing

Semi-bluffing is a strategy which centers on making your opponents think that you already have a great hand when in truth you are still waiting for a certain card that will complete that one great hand. In No Limit Texas Holdem, semi-bluffing can really be effective. If you do good, your opponents will eventually believe that you have a great hand and that they have no other choice but to just leave the pot to you. And in the event you don’t obtain or have your draw, still you can be the winner in the end.

Say on the flop comes up AsKs9d and at the turn there’s Js. Latter has the potential for drawing a flush or a straight so it is a scare card. Typically, if you are not in a good position, you will check. You might also decide to raise as soon as possible on the basis of the cards on the board.

Aside from checking if you are in a good position or raising on the basis of cards on the board, you can try doing some other things. But of course you must consider the odds and the types of opponents you are up against with.

You can try confusing your opponents. Early in the game, you can call a bluff. But bluff should be strong enough to get found out. Have the goal of making it at showdown so your opponents could see you were just plainly bluffing and almost enjoying.

All throughout the game, your opponents will think that you are just a bluffer and for it they can raise and re-raise as long as they like which can really be a great help in increasing the size of the pot.

To strengthen the pot, try to keep your opponents playing. But of course, this is only possible if you have a pretty strong hand or the nuts. However be careful. Think things through. Although you need to get an edge to make it and win, you still have to widely open your understanding and your eyes to the situation at the table. Consider the cards and the opponents you are up against with.

At the turn, if you like an out and have drawing hands, you must raise bets as this increases the cost of staying in the hand. But you must raise constantly to make pot odds less pleasing for your opponents which eventually would make them fold.

However, after the turn, try to check out the situation and your hand. Check if it is still worth to stay in the game with the kind of hand you have. If in case you have marginal hand and seems like it didn’t improve at the turn, then maybe it’s time to stop. Although you would be losing your bets, you would be able to save yourself some money.

On the other hand, at the river, you must be very careful. Players who reach this phase normally have big drawing cards or very good cards.

If you have a marginal hand at the river, it’s better for you to just fold before showdown. However if you want to make some bluffs and are hoping to trap some players with a monster hand, then you must check and call.

And if you have great cards, more or less would be the situation as you are at the river, you can try milking the pot. But you must be sure you have unbeatable set of cards. If in case you have, you can make raises until your opponents call the bets you have made. If being aggressive won’t work, consider the idea that your opponents might have better cards or believe that you’re just bluffing out on them.

Typically, it is best to play reasonable poker. Although you will get tempted to be one of those aggressive players, raise and re-raise often, it is still a good thing that you act with the odds in mind, in short still be reasonable.

Nonetheless, if you are a tight player, playing with those aggressive players can be very frustrating because they are oftentimes unpredictable. You wouldn’t know if they are betting just for the sake of betting or else they do really have a strong hand. But of course, you don’t want to be holding trash at showdown or waste your money on bad cards so you better act right when up against aggressive players.

If up against aggressive players, you can play tight but still be reasonable. Aggressive players tend to play on and on and just don’t know when to exactly quit. Thus, if you only play tight but still reasonable, you can actually caught them up easily.

Try to have good starting hands and provoke an aggressive player with a raise and then go on with a re-raise. That aggressive player will more or less be on tilt and eventually will react unreasonably. As a result, you will get a good pot in the end.

Take note that aggressive players can be a good source of chips if you just know how to play with them right. If by chance you win against aggressive players you will be rest assured you’ll be collecting a lot later part.

Intimidation Signs

Typically, if a player tries to intimidate, he most probably has a weak hand. For an instance, he shouts “I raise” then bets instantly or tosses chips onto the table, more or less he’s trying to intimidate.

Busy Mode

Normally, if the player is talking to a friend, speaking on the phone, listening to music from iPod or eating, player must be strong. If you have a premium hand, stay in the pot in the event player raises.

Weakness Signs

If player tries to imply he is weak, he most likely has a great hand. He can imply he is weak by putting his chips neatly and quietly into the pot and afterwards slowly bets.

Intriguing Statement

If player leaves an intriguing statement before raising or going all in, he more or less has a very strong hand. An example of an intriguing statement is something like “a man’s got to do what a man’s got to do”.

Risking Bigger Chips

In the event player puts the bigger chips into the pot like $100 although he has 4 chips of $25, he may be strong. Player is not afraid to risk his bigger chips as he’ll get them back later.

Patience

The very first contributor to profit is patience. If you’ll come to think of it, there would be nothing else that can destroy the profit potential like lack of patience. Thus, it’s important to always keep enough patience. When you start to enter to many pots with marginal hands, stay too long though signs are clear you are beat or draw to long-shot hands, be careful as you might already be losing your patience. Remember that because of lack of patience, you might get yourself into strings of bad beats.

Planning

To get a profit from your bankroll, it will help if you will make a plan. Plan out how you will play big pair after a raise, how to cope with a losing streak, when to quit if a game is too tough, how to change your play when the mood of the game changes or the like. Do your homework. Although making a plan won’t guarantee you a profit, it can keep you organized and well knowledgeable of the things you need to do under certain conditions or situations.

Position

Position is indeed an important contributor to profit. It’s vital that you know how to correctly use whatever position you have. Like for an instance circumstances put you in the last or near the last to act, know what you should do to make a profit. Nonetheless, know that you should bet in order to win the pot. Thus, take advantage of your being last or near the last to act.

Texas Holdem Terms

Terms that are often used in Texas Holdem games are:

Action – takes place when a player stays in a hand.
All In – to place all your money in the pot.
Bad Beat – have a hand that is way behind and with a little chance of winning.
Bankroll – refers to player’s money.
Bet – to place wager.
Big Blind – left of the dealer and the bigger of the two blinds.
Blind – refers to the forced bet for the first two positions.
Burn Card – to discard the top card to prevent cheating.
Buy In – amount you pay to play in a game.
Call – to put money equal to the best placed before you.
Check – you don’t bet though no one has bet in front of you.
Check Raise – you check and not everyone checked or called then you raise.
Dealer Button – determines who is the current dealer.
Early Position – first player to act in a betting round.
Fifth Street – the fifth community card, also known as the River.
Flop – the first three community cards.
Fourth Street – the fourth community card, also known as the Turn.
Heads Up – 2 players are left in the game.
Hole Cards – two cards in player’s hand.
Kicker – the top high card after matched hands.
Late Position – final players to receive cards.
Limp In – call pre-flop.
Middle Position – player that acts half way.
Muck – fold the hand.
Nuts – the best possible hand.
Position – position of the player at the table.
Pot – money in the current hand which players are playing for.
Pot Committed – a point when the player has to stay in the pot for he has so much money into the pot.
Raise – to bet.
Rake – amount of money collected by the house.
Rebuy – option in a tournament to buy back after losing money.
Reraise – raise a raise.
River – fifth and final community card.
Semi-bluff – bluffing without a strong hand but can still be drawn to.
Showdown – stage where remaining players will have to show their hands.
Small Blind – the smaller of two blinds, left of the dealer.
Turn – the fourth community card, also known as “fourth street.”

I have K7 unsuited and flop is A – 7- 4. I normally wind up calling it but later I lose as it comes back to haunt me. Do you think I should call with a hand like such? Why?

1. You should probably lay down this hand on this flop when it is bet to you in No Limit as there is an ace. If it is Limit, you can stay in due to the limited bets and the fact you have odds.
   
2. A-K, A-Q, A-J and maybe K-Q, K-J, and K-10 are the only suited connectors I am going to normally consider calling a raise preflop with against a single opponent.

You might want to try and open you hand ranges up in later position. Without knowing more about your game I cannot recommend bluffing. Raising preflop just for the sake of raising usually just leads to lost money. If you are going to raise, do so for a reason, such as a big hand or a tight game.

Once I was burnt with 2 pair so I want to know if how one should actually play it. I was thinking maybe I played it incorrectly.

Well, say you get dealt 2 pair on the flop and slow playing is not a good idea as players can pick up sets, straights, much more that can beat you. What will you do then? How will you bet?

If I flop two pair without an apparent straight or flush draw on the board, I will tend to slow play it. If I am in a loose game or against calling stations, I will still bet as they will likely call me down or even raise. If there is a potential straight or flush draw, I will bet the hand to try and push players out.
